The fall of the Soviet Union is another that's very good. In the early 1980's it would not have been expected to happen any time soon, but it would be impossible to have knowledge of any international affairs in the 1990's and avoid the fact that the Soviet Union was suddenly absent. Of course 9/11 had such a huge influence it would be hard to miss. One thing to remember though is it is not a unique event in this respect. I can think of others. What about the fall of the Soviet Union? The reunification of Germany? Any psychic in the early 80's who could see ahead a few years, even if they missed the actual fall, would see that everything changed. No more hammer and sickle flying in Russia. No more "Soviet Union" chair at the UN. Berlin lost the wall and in its place was rubble that was removed after a few years. Everywhere in East Germany, there was a building boom. The Red Army was disbanded. All the statues of Lenin toppled. How could you make any prediction of the future of world politics without noticing this change? What about the Asian Tsunami? Almost four years later, it still has a huge effect on the culture and life in the area. Many places have barely begun to truly rebuild because of the devastation. Anyone familiar with these areas could see them in the future and would instantly know that they are devastated. The same with Hurricane Katrina. The same with major wars or natural disasters. If they are large enough they come to dominate the news cycle and policy around the world for a period of time. Point being that the "imperfect reception" excuse has a BIG hole in it. It's bullshit.
