If you’re going to start a blog or a website or something and you think you’ve come up with a clever name, you really ought to at least Google the name and see if it’s been used before. This is especially true if someone already owns a domain with it. Yeah… I guess we’ll consider it flattery here at the “real” Depleted Cranium.

A useful protection might be to make free blogs on all of the major free blog sites with your sitename to try pre-empt this type of action. Set up a posting of an RSS feed from your own site.
Of course there are all of the domain names where it would cost money and where there is a lot of domain duplication.
abc.net
abc.org
abc.bz
etc…
Perhaps congratulations on being popular enough to attract parasites.

Sorry dude…….I didn’t think of checking/searching. If you like, I will turn it over to you and you can do with it what you will. After all it is fairly new. You have my email, so let me know.

Eh, don’t worry about it
If things get so big on both sites that people get confused then we’ll see if there needs to be something. I’ll consider it a compliment. Maybe a link on the side would be nice. Something like “If you came here looking for DrBuzz0’s bad science blog here’s the other site by this name”

Are you paying attention you “take down notice” serving legal parasites? Real human beings can handle something like this with some class and commonsense instead of threats. Bet you hope this doesn’t get around, no telling what the impact would be if folks resolved their differences without you.

Thanks a lot. It’s appreciated because hey, I may very well get some traffic from that
DV, What? I’m supposed to be a jackass to someone just because they apparently thought of the same play on words as I did? That’s not going to win many friends or allies.
I can understand in some circumstances. I mean if it were someone who disliked or disagreed with my website and tried to create a website which would confuse people who searched for mine or went so far as to actively impersonate this website, especially in a malicious way… Okay that I can understand. ..
Even if somebody just was impersonating this site or trying to make people think it was this site for some reason like to draw traffic which was intending to go here, that i might get kinda mad about, but I see no reason why someone has to start with that idiotic “take down notice” stuff over something so obviously minor and with no apparent mal intent.
I guess I *could* use the fact that I own the domain and that it has been established for close to a year already. That’s called “just being a bastard.” It’s also kinda petty and immature.

Of course, but we both know how thing are these days. I just thought it very refreshing that two people were able to work it out like civilized folk. Makes me think there’s some hope for the future.
