Before anyone falls for the idea that moving away from coal is somehow going to mean a loss of high quality jobs that will effect econemy and societies and communities, lets consider what it is like to work in the coal industry. This video is a sobering and EXTREMELY ACURATE look at what it is like to work in a coal fired power plant and how the work affects the employees and their outlook on life.
This is exactly what it is like to work in a coal fired power plant.
(Just kidding…
But it’s probably not a lot better)

In London England at the Science and Technology Museum, there is a video of a crew working a coal-gas plant. It was shot on film sometime before the War, I think.
The generator consisted of many horizontal stacked tubes serviced at a wall of small doors by a crew of two or three, continuously moving from door to door. This reminds me very much of that movie – without the silliness of course.

Do you mena the Science Museum? The only “Science and Technology museum” I know of was the one in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which is now renamed to the “Discovery Museum”…

You’re probably right George, I live in Canada and only get to London now and then. What ever its name it’s a great place to see the bits and pieces of the Industrial Revolution

Looks more like a coal-slurry. Funny, but it might not be too far off the mark on a few things. The coal industry is a dirty, dangerous, dark place to work. I don’t think the work is quite as back-breaking as it used to be. But it’s still very dangerous compared to other industries.
It does pay well, but that’s because it has to. Nobody would do that kind of work if it didn’t.
It’s like being a stripper. It’s not a good job in general. It’s kinda dirty and skeevy. It can be dangerous. Nobody aspires to the job. It’s degrading. But it pays the bills and it pays well.
Kids in the Hall was an awesome show.

Very true.
A friend of mine got a summer job at coal mine.
$38.50/hour with only 10 days of (free) safety training, is actually very good, he’s going to do it next summer too.
