The What’s Hot Button

August 14th, 2008

Share

You’ll notice a little button on the sidebar.  It’s something of a substitute for the comment scroller that received some complaints.   The page it links to is one I’ve mentioned before.  It’s basically a dashboard of recent comments, links to this page and so on.   I’m not sure how interested visitors really are about my Twitter/online status and other such things, but it’s there just the same.

In general I try to keep the interface relatively well organized, clean and unobtrusive.  That may mean leaving out information or options if adding them is just going to create a cluttered page.

Primarily the page is for regular visitors who might want to check out what threads have new comments to respond to, including those which might be buried in the archives but have new activity.  Alternative, if you care about a comment being replied to you can use the e-mail option on the comment forum or you can check out the comments RSS link which is on the bottom of the main page and is also on the “What’s Hot” page.

Feed back is appreciated.  Let me know what you think!

The page or the button? Try reloading. I can’t see why the button wouldn’t show. It’s just a simple HTML image tag and nothing fancy

In IE (and in Opera) the button doesn’t show. Reload doesn’t seem to change anything. It’s probably one of my settings somewhere.

I like it. Takes up no CPU cycles, and doesn’t have annoying motion on the screen.

Doesn’t show up on IE at work either ;-) although that blocks twitter too.

So that’s 2 different XP systems, strike out on IE for both, strike out Opera at home, success on Mozilla Firefox at home.

When I see it, I like it!

I absolutely do not understand how that could possibly happen. All it is is a basic tag IMG in html

Maybe the size and placement makes the system think it’s an advertisement? Do you have an ad blocker of some kind installed?
