Photoshop Disasters: Funny Blog

These days it’s very easy to edit images. Adobe Photoshop has become the ubiquitious standard for image manipulaton, creating the term “photoshopped” to mean any image that has bee digitally altered to make it appear to be something it is not. With a few minutes of time and the use of some stock images and filters it’s easy to alter photos.
But perhaps it’s a bit too easy, because it seems that many images are getting published with some obvious flaws that are both hilarious and very revealing, leaving the producer with quite a lot of egg on their face. I especially like the revealing errors in news media photos, as these are supposed to represent real events and are a clear cut violation of journalistic integrity.
That’s what the blog Photoshop Disasters is all about. I’d recommend checking it out for a good laugh!
Here are a couple of my favorites from the site:

Well at least these are transparent – the one I worry about are the ones that are so good you can’t tell

Yeah that is true. For some photos it’s not even that difficult to make some alterations that are simple and completely change the context or meaning of the photo.
Of course, photo shopping images and making images that are not real does not bother me when it’s for the purposes of something like an advertisement or product image or the cover to a book or movie box or something. Many of the images on the blog are not ones that are even hiding the fact that they are composts, like for example images that are clearly promotional illustrations or even cartoons, but also happen to contain a really bad flaw.
Retouching of images that are for news media or claim to report on real events though.. that’s something that bothers me. As far as news photographs, the only editing I think is acceptable is minor adjustments for hue/saturation/contrast/exposure to compensate for camera or film issues and make the image easier to view – these, of course, don’t change the context or content of the image. Other than that, editing is not acceptable.

Those are great. The university one is especially hilarious. Nice to see people getting lazy with the photoshop effects.
