There is a 15 minute film coming out on the 31st called “Fatna.” It apparently presents a thesis that the Quran is inherently prone toward the promotion of injustices, tyranny and so on. I don’t know if this is valid or not, because I has not seen the movie. But it has a lot of Muslims very angry, as one might imagine. Pakistan blocked Youtube to the entire country recently because of this and in the process apparently caused a major worldwide routing glitch that ended up taking the site down to many others outside Pakistan.
Now the website of the movie has been taken down by Network Solutions. Although it’s their right to suspend content that resides on their server, the page, which has been replaced by only a legal disclaimer from Network Solutions, was apparently only guilty of ruffling feathers in the same way that plenty of anti-christian, anti-athiest, and anti-almost-anything movies and websites tend to do. Was the website just outright hatred of Islam and encouragement of violence or some other kind of empty hate speech? Well I don’t know, because there’s no cached version avaliable and the page has been suspended. However, by all accounts this is simply Network Solutions caving to pressure from a very vocal and very offended group. In the interest of freedom of expression, this really isn’t a good thing for a general purpose hosting company to start doing.
The thought police apparently have struck again, but there’s something you can do! Contact Network Solutions, their affiliated companies and the Better Business Bureau Online, of which Network Solutions is apparently part. Be sure to tell them the following: You’re very dissatisfied with their taking down of the website. You will not consider using any of their products or services in the future. You will not patronize businesses affiliated with their website. You will encourage others you know to likewise boycott the website. Tell the BBB and any partner companies that you believe association with Network Solutions reflects poorly on their integrity due to this incident. Also mention you will no longer consider investing in their corporation or any funds which have interest in them.
