UPDATE: 8:50 PM Eastern Dec 18, 2007 – The screen capture which is shown later in this post is no longer up on the website in question. The page now appears to have reverted to how it was in 2006, even mentioning “upcoming” events in 2006. The local newspaper published a STINGING editorial which took the bitch to task pretty badly and I take it she has begun to realize that nobody is eating this bullshit. Local comments on the newspaper have also been rather one-sided.

“Evil” seems to be a bit of an emotional loaded word which is hard to define with any kind of assurance. So I shall try a few others: Attention-craving, self-centered, melodramatic, uncaring, dishonorable, dishonest, unethical, immoral, lying, cheating, self-serving, martyr-wanna-be, absolutely shameless, disgusting, revolting, completely unable to comprehend or live within a civil society. Of course, I am talking about Nancy Burton, the train wreck who’s been yelling and screaming about a local nuclear plant for some time. In any case, last week I wrote this post about how this scumbag Burton had used the death of a local infant to further her idiotic and unfounded harassment of a community and the nuclear plant located there.
Now you might figure that after such a bad PR incident as taking advantage of a couple’s dead child, the bitch would shut the hell up, at least briefly. Or at the very least, not concentrate on an issue which shows her to be the liar she is. But no. This scumbag has decided to play victim here and go and sue the family who brought this up (the one with the dead baby), the reporter who wrote the story, the newspaper which published it and the publishing company which owns the paper. WHAT A CLASS ACT! She even threw in the state attorney general for good measure. She even has claimed to be a civil rights leader. How nice of her to take on the authorities like that (NEWSFLASH: Burton you are still not Gandhi)
On the front page of Burton’s idiotic website this lawsuit is posted with the following heading:
“Censored”? You should be one to talk, Burton. You call the article libelous even tough it would appear to be entirely based on reality and the untrue information YOU published. Then you turn around and sue them? And *you* claim to be censored? Somebody needs to tell this deplorable woman the definition of “censored” and “freedom of speech.” Okay, I’ll agree that certain damaging information may be held civilly accountable, but the article published is not one of them! However the lies Burton puts out…
If you look at this nutty rambling lawsuit, you’ll quickly find that it contains a lot of stupid, untrue and above all else, unrelated claims about how Burton has been fighting for the poor children in the area against the big “for profit” power plant and how the Attorney General has been betraying the public trust and killing children. None of this has anything to do with the actual substance of the lawsuit, not that it has any to begin with. She does manage to drag up the death of the child which stated this all (classy). But it reads like what it is: The desperate attempt at attention of a very sick and very dishonest pathetic woman.
Now it’s worth pointing out that this pitiful woman was disbarred some time ago, so I had figured she would not be suing anyone. Apparently she has either found some other lawyer to submit it or may have just submitted it as a citizen. Either way, considering how many frivolous lawsuits this bitch has put out there against the various persons and dogs in this state, the courts know her well and will no doubt treat this with the credibility (or lack there of) it deserves. I just hope she gets counter-sued.
Every once in a while I wonder if the world needs some sort of special act which could allow for the death penalty to be given on a case-by-case basis for disgusting examples of humanity that just won’t go away. This pathetic bitch has been discredited, disbarred and outed in public more than a few times and she still won’t shut up. I think it’s about time to just drag the attention whore out behind the shed and put her out of her misery with a shot gun.
Oh and if I sound over the top, it’s because I’m getting more and more pissed. I’ve had it with this bitch. Where the hell is your sense of morals Burton? Do you have no shame at all? Oh yeah, go ahead and tack me on to that lawsuit if you want. Nobody’s afraid of you. We’re all just sick of your bullshit.

Since it seems to be ridiculously easy to file a civil action in the U.S. why haven’t people like this woman and others of her ilk not been litigated into penury by this point.
I’m asking this in all innocence, I know little of the U.S. civil courts other than that they seem to hear cases that wouldn’t make it past the clerks up here.

The US civil courts will accept any lawsuit. As to whether it makes it past the clerk? Only the most ridiculous ones will not. My guess is that it’s because it’s just not worth it from a PR standpoint. This crazy little woman yells and scremes a lot about how she’s fighting for the citizens and she’ll do anything to try to get into the papers.
Dominion, the company which owns Millstone would have no problem suing her. They also would get a lot further than the clerk because there’s definitely a decent amount of credibility for that. I think she’d thrive on that though, because she LOVES pretending the big bad company with all its lawyers is trying to shut her up. She’s been sued more than a few times by others.
She actually sued a judge who tossed a bunch of her lawsuits. (Yes you heard me right. She sued the JUDGE. Not the court. The JUDGE PERSONALLY) Anyways…

I don’t think she really has any assets to go after and she’d just love the attention too much. Dominion just doesn’t comment on her much. I don’t think they’d like to make a big stink and get her the attention she so desperately wants.

Suing somebody who can do PR better than you can is usually a disaster–they go to the media and create a David and Goliath image, usually (at least in the US).
Tort reform would be so much more of a net gain for us that I wouldn’t try filing lawsuits. Shouldn’t we try to capitalize instead on the public hatred of lawyers?

Among other claims:
“81. Ms. Burton has suffered personal harm to her reputation.”
I don’t think she has a peer when it comes to harming her reputation. If she wants to go after the real culprit responsible for her “reputation” then she might consider filing suit against herself.

Thank you for illuminating and expanding your use of the word ‘evil.’ I read a fascinating essay (that I now cannot locate) that cautioned labeling someone or something as ‘evil’ is often used as a blank check for inhumane treatment – their rights are no longer respected, torture or other abhorrent treatments are mentally justified because there is no good in them, nor do they deserve any respect. The result is to disable whatever altruism or decency there could otherwise be operating in the hearer, reader, or labeler.

Meh. I guess you could call some of the name-calling ad-hom, but this lady has been at this for some period of time. I’m not calling her evil in the same sense as someone like Hitler, or not to that degree, but she has a rather consistent pattern of dishonesty which has reached the point of being just ridiculous.

You people have no idea. Nancy Burton relieved me and my family of $1,900.00, caused us to spend another couple thousand and left us stranded 2,000 miles away from HOME.

I’m a paraplegic with wife and 2 small kids. She rented a cottage to me when I went to travel up to visit grandparents. She said it was wheelchair accessible. There were 4 slippery stairs. My grandfather dropped me while trying to life me down the steps. It was FULL of harmful chemicals, and rusty pick axe and just a nightmare. I had to get my family out of there fast and she is now ignoring my calls.
I find this ironic since her whole public thing seems to be an effort to help keep kids safe and so forth. Looks more to me like an effort to stay in the public eye. She is not a good person and did real damage to me

By the way, is there anyone out there who wants to help us somehow? I know she really knows her way around the system and feel it may be a waste to sue her as she would just be adding me to a LOOONG list of people she is not paying.

I’m terribly sorry to hear of your misfortune, Chris. If I understand right you were looking for a descent vacation to have some relaxation with your family. It makes things all the worse that it spoils a vacation that you looked forward to.
That really looks pretty bad. I could understand if there was just one thing wrong with the cottage, like she had forgotten about the steps or something, but clearly from the pictures, that was no place to rent even to a family that didn’t have accessibility issues or even young children. That’s disgusting. Certainly not for $1900. My family has rented vacation properties for a week or two when I was much younger and for that price you expect the place to be completely clean and basically problem free.

Having said that, it might well be worth suing her, at least to give it a shot. The courts in Connecticut know her bull pretty well and that can help. Also, she’s disbarred so there’s a limit to what she can do in retaliation. I’m not a lawyer, though. You should talk to a lawyer about this.
The only thing about it is that for $1900 it might not be a huge gain to hire a lawyer to help you out. However, you may be able to sue for more than that. Consider the greater issues: your transport expenses, the money it took to get you out of there, the lost vacation time etc etc.
There may be some who will take it pro bono. You can try calling the Bar Association. You should mention your condition. I’m not saying that you should play the fact that you’re handicapped to get any kind of special treatment, but the fact that someone would completely ignore the accessibility needs of someone and leave them stuck unable to even get into the rented property is especially diabolical.
There are advocacy groups out there that exist to help people who have been taken advantage of by either having their condition exploited or being denied the kind of reasonable accommodations they were supposed to have. You might want to look to any kind of associations that advocate for people with limited mobility or physical handicaps for help. I’m sure they would be shocked and angered by this.
