Just a thought…

October 25th, 2007

Every once in a while I say something that makes me think “Oh I like that.”  It’s those moments when a well inspired quote or concept comes to mind that’s just too good to be left unused.   And I don’t tend to come up with words of wisdom very often, so I had best milk them for all they’re worth….

“Q: How often does the scientific mainstream have to admit it was entirely wrong about something and the alternative theorists were correct?
A:  Only very very rarely.
Q.  How often do the alternative theorist admit have to admit that they were wrong about something and the scientific mainstream was correct?
A.  Never.  They continue to claim they are right regardless of how much it is disproven”

Hmmm… maybe I should reword this somehow because I want it to be more clear that what I am referring to are things like well established and tested facts.  Science often goes through several favored hypotheses before it comes to a consensus on when one is adequately proven.   But then again the non-science ones (conspiracy theorists, alternative medicine, paranormalists, homeopaths) they can crank stuff out all day ;-)   ***sigh*** it may never end.

If your looking to rephrase, how about this:

Now and then mainstream science must admit embarrassment as its rejects a beloved but disproven theory and accepts an alternate. Alternative science will suffer no such embarrassment, as “proof” does not serve as their basis of truth.

    and on a similar note:

On occasion, science must discard an erronious theory and accept an alternate. But the rejected theory will always have an ally in a sympathetic defender, who decries conspiracy on its behalf, and turns a handy buck for his trouble.

Gotta run, so not much time to fine-tune. But feel free to bastardize and reproduce. I hereby release these to the public domain. :)

Hmm… Maybe that was a post that would have been better off had I walked away and then come back to reread. Seems a lot clumsier a day later.

I guess by the end of a 12-hour work day, I start thinking I’m Mark Twain.
