So you may have heard a while back one of the ladies on “The View” wasn’t really sure if the earth was flat or round. Well, I let that one pass because it had already been written about to death on a bunch of other sites, but it was indeed rather stupid. But here’s another little clip which has been making the rounds recently which is just too dumb to even fathom. It makes me wonder what demographic that show is targeted at. I thought it was basically designed for rather empty-minded yuppy-ish housewives, but I’m not sure that even that group could stand this mindnumbing idiocy.

Basically her religious faith has convinced her that there were always Christians. Then it erupts into a bunch of banter about Romans and Greeks. Of course, many cultures predated Jesus and Christianity. It’s well known history. And it’s not like the Christians contend that either. Hell, more than half the Bible is about what went on BEFORE Christ (the Old Testament). So in this case, the Bible and established history agree, at least in part. There was never a belief that Jesus always existed. You remember the Christmas story? About how he was born? And there were already people? You know how the traditional meaning of “BC” is “Before Christ.”

But what is so ridiculous about this woman is that she makes such religious assertions like she is a faithful Christian and a devoutly religious person, and yet she not only lacks a basic understanding of history, but she apparently doesn’t even know the beliefs of her own damn religion. This is common, but not nearly this bad in most cases. I’ve known many Christians who insist that it is a matter of faith and scripture that Jesus was born on December 25th. It’s not. And the church readily admits that it’s not known exactly when. But then again, I think that ignorance of history and even the religion itself is one of the biggest things that keeps it going…

Anyways… she needs to go away, as Phil said.
