Homeopathy Explained (funny and informative)

By none other than our good friend James Randi. This gem is a clip from a lecture in 2001 at Princeton. Although I think homeopathy could be explained for what it is in a bit shorter talk, Randi makes it both interesting and informative and gives some excellent background on Homeopathy.
I have to say that this illustrates well what’s so great about Randi. He’s not only well-informed and committed advocate for reason and science, but he’s also able to make it interesting, thought-provoking and even a bit funny. Science in general and especially skepticism and defending of the mainstream tends to be a bit dry. It’s hard to do a presentation on skepticism or anti-wacky-ideas and make it something that’s attention-getting or inspiring. But Randi does it like no other.
Is Randi angry about homeopathy being out there? Yes, to some extent. And after you watch this you probably will be too. I am too. You should be! Science may be about reason and balance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get PO’ed over bad science being used to scam or defraud the public – or for that matter, simply to obscure the elegant truths of the universe with inaccurate and harmful lies. Some might accuse him of name-calling or being a bit harsh, but the reason he calls homeopathy idiotic, laughable and absurd is because it is idiotic, laughable and absurd! Here at Depleted Cranium, we pull no punches and grant no immunity to bad science.Everybody point and laugh at homeopathy. It deserves it.From the Rational Response Squad
